Collecting Your Data

Types of Data Collected

Usage Data

Usage Data are collected automatically when using the Service.

Usage Data may include information such as your device's Internet Protocol address (i.e. IP address), browser type, browser version, the pages of our Service that you visit, the time and date of your visit, the time spent on those pages, unique device identifiers, and other diagnostic data. This information will not personally identify you to the Company.

When you access the Service by or through a device, we may collect certain information automatically, including, but not limited to, the type of device you use, your device unique ID, the IP address of your device, your operating system, the type of Internet browser you use, unique device identifiers, and other diagnostic data.

We may also collect information that your browser sends whenever you visit our Service or when you access the Service by or through a device.

Tracking Technologies and Cookies

We use Cookies and similar persistence technologies to store certain information relating to your immediate use of the Service. We do not track your use of the Internet. We may, however, display anonymous aggregate data from our internal analytics or from third party widgets. The technologies we use may include:

Session Cookies. A cookie is a small file placed on your device. A Session Cookie is a short-lived cookie that expires shortly after you finish using a website. Most web browsers delete session cookies upon closing the browser window. You can instruct your browser to refuse all cookies or to indicate when a cookie is being sent. However, if you do not accept cookies, you may not be able to use some parts of our Service. Unless you have adjusted your browser setting so that it will refuse cookies, our Service may use cookies.

We do not store Personal Information in Cookies. We use Session Cookies to store information necessary for the Visual Identification game. For example, when a Spectrum is displayed and you are asked to identify which element(s) is/are present in the spectrum, a session cookie contains data the page previously generated so that your "guess" can be compared with the correct answer.

Use of Your Data

Use of Your Personal Data

The Company does not collect or store Personal Data. There is no place on the Service, except the "Which Element Are You" page, that asks for Personal Data. Anything entered into the "Which Element Are You" page is used strictly as input to an algorithm that chooses what it thinks is the closest match from the names or atomic numbers of the elements. Once the algorithm finishes, whatever information you entered is promptly deleted from our systems.

We do not store User Accounts. The Service is informational in nature, with a few entertainment features. It is designed to be a form of one-way communication, i.e. we provide Content but we do not store or maintain any Content provided or created by you, other than non-personally-identifying Usage Data.

Use of Your Usage Data

To provide and maintain our Service, including to monitor the usage of our Service, for purposes such as assessing which parts of the Service are most in demand, and which parts may be too hard to find or too hard to use, we may from time to time examine Usage Data to guide our decisions about the Service.

Disclosure of Your Data

Although we do not store Personal Data, we may be required to share whatever Data we have about you in the following situations:

With Service Providers: We may share your identifying information with Service Providers to monitor and analyze the use of our Service, that they may contact you if there's a problem. For example, this would happen if you misused the Service in a manner inconsistent with the policies of either your or our Service Provider, or if you attempted to breach the security of this website. In that case, we would share your IP address, which we cannot use to personally identify you, but your Service Provider likely could. This hypothetical scenario is only one example of when we might be required to disclose your information.

With your consent: We may disclose your personal information for any other purpose with your consent.

Retention of Your Data

The Company will not retain your Personal Data, unless required by applicable laws.

The Company may retain limited scope Usage Data for internal analysis purposes.

Transfer of Your Data

Your information, including Usage Data, is processed on a Web Server located on the premises of one of our Service Providers. The data may be accessed by us over an internet connection. Your information may appear in other locations as well, for example if you email us, your name and email address will appear in our mail servers. We use Gmail for all email communications.

The Company will take all steps reasonably necessary to ensure that your data are treated securely and in accordance with this Privacy Policy and no transfer of your Personal Data will take place to an organization or a country unless authorized by you. We may, however, choose to show visual graphs of anonymized aggregate usage data, which cannot be separated into personal contributions, and therefore do not expose any of your Personal Data or individual Usage Data. We may also use third party widgets, such as visitor counters, that aggregate Usage Data in a way that does not uniquely identify you.

Advertizing

We may use ad banners on the Website. These ads may collect your data in ways beyond the scope of this Privacy Policy. Please see Google Analytics' privacy policy for information about how Google Analytics uses your Data.

Business Transactions

If the Company is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your data may be transferred. A notice will appear on our Service before any data are transferred and become subject to a different Privacy Policy. Currently, we are not accepting offers for mergers, acquisitions, or sale of any part of our Service.

Law Enforcement

Under certain circumstances, the Company may disclose any of your data that we may have, if required to do so by law or in response to valid requests by public authorities (e.g. a court or a government agency). For this reason, we recommend limiting the amount of information you share with us.

Other legal requirements

The Company may disclose your data in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to:

Security of Your Personal Data

The security of your Personal Data is important to Us, but remember that no method of transmission over the Internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your data, it is impossible to guarantee its absolute security.

Children's Privacy

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your child has provided us with Personal Data, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Data from anyone under the age of 13 without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

Links to Other Websites

Our Service may contain links to other websites that are not operated by us. If you click on a third party link, you will be directed to that third party's site. Such sites will have their own Privacy Policy that differs from our Privacy Policy.

We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the content, privacy policies, or practices of any third party sites or services.

You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes. Changes to this Privacy Policy are effective when they are posted on this page.
